care organization's potential to serve will rely heavily upon its ability
to accomplish performance improvement by constantly improving the quality
of its services.
In response to this societal demand upon health care,
health care accrediting bodies have begun to integrate the use of performance
measurement data into the accreditation process. By doing so they attempt
to apply a standards based accreditation process that will support organizational
process improvement, enhance comparative evaluation, and strengthen the
